Care for Your Contacts

Safety Information About Contact Lenses

Contact lenses work great for some people who wish to improve their eyesight without wearing glasses.  At Hawaiian Eye Center, we can evaluate problems associated with contact lenses but don't prescribe contact lenses for new patients.  If you come to our office for an examination and wish try contact lenses, we will send you to one of the doctors on our list of trusted contact lens providers.

About Contact Lenses
Contact lenses stay in contact with the surface of the eye for an extended period of time, which means they can, at times, cause problems in the eyes. Contact lens wearers have a higher incidence of abrasions on the surface of the eye and of serious infections on the surface of the eye than people who don't wear contacts. Thus, it is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully to be sure you don't do something that could put your eyes at risk.

Even though contact lenses are available that are designed to be used overnight, we recommend to all of our contact lens patients that they remove and disinfect their lenses before they go to sleep. Also they should make sure the contact lenses are fully disinfected before putting them back in their eyes when they wake up.
